What is Possessive Pronoun?
A possessive pronoun is used to depict possession and belonging to something or someone. A possessive pronoun is used at the place of noun whereas possessive determiners which are rather similar to possessive pronoun is used before nouns.
The possessive pronouns are mine, ours, yours, his, hers, and theirs. It shows the possession over something but we can spell it without an apostrophe.
Let’s understand it more precisely-
Mine – Mine shows the possession of First-person subject ‘I’ which is singular in form. The objective form of Mine is ‘me’ and possessive adjective is ‘my’. For example: -
1. That book is mine. (with Possessive Pronoun)
That is my book. (with Possessive adjective)
2. His dress is better than mine. (with Possessive Pronoun)
His dress is better than my dress. (with Possessive adjective)
Ours – Ours shows the possession of First-person subject ‘We’ which is plural in form. The objective form of Ours is ‘us’ and possessive adjective is ‘our’. For example: -
1. That house is ours. (with Possessive Pronoun)
That is our house. (with Possessive adjective)
2. Ours is the black one in the kitchen. (with Possessive Pronoun)

Yours – Yours shows the possession of second-person subject ‘You’ which is singular and plural, both in form. The objective form of yours is ‘you’ and possessive adjective is ‘your’. For example: -
1. My phone is glitched, pass me yours please. (with Possessive Pronoun)
My phone is glitched, pass me your phone please. (with Possessive adjective)
2. Is that mobile yours? (with Possessive Pronoun)
Is that your mobile? (with Possessive adjective)
His – His shows the possession of third-person subject ‘He’ which is singular in form. The objective form of His is ‘him’ and possessive adjective is ‘his’. For example: -
1. His will arrive tomorrow. (with Possessive Pronoun)
His parcel will arrive tomorrow. (with Possessive adjective)
2. It was his not mine. (with Possessive Pronoun)
It was his chain not mine. (with Possessive adjective)
Hers – Hers shows the possession of third-person subject ‘she’ which is singular in form. The objective form of hers is ‘her’ and possessive adjective is ‘her’. For example:-
1. That is hers. (with Possessive Pronoun)
That is her laptop. (with Possessive adjective)
2. It was hers. (with Possessive Pronoun)
It was her fault. (with Possessive adjective)
Theirs – Theirs shows the possession of third-person subject ‘They’ which is plural in form. The objective form of theirs is ‘them’ and possessive adjective is ‘their’. For example: -
1. They are theirs. Mine are here. (with Possessive Pronoun)
They are their parents. Mine are here. (with Possessive adjective)
2. These flowers are theirs. (with Possessive Pronoun)
